This section deals with the second arc of my modelling history.
By this time I had begun to use reference images, more efficient unwrapping techniques and even conceptualize my own designs.
For our second project we had less of a poly restriction, as our programmer had worked out a more efficient streaming method for our game.
I also began using reference images for my modelling.
Something which baffled me when I realized that I had not been doing it up until this point.

Working from reference images drastically improved my modeling focus.
My texturing skill too was improving.
This simple cigarette bit (ashtray) was the first model I made to reference.

A bathroom soap dispenser was my first time attempting to make a model from multiple parts and not just extruding from a basic shape.
It may not seem like much but this was a big revolution for me and my modeling style.

This unfinished generator model was part of a scrapped project.
It never made it to completion but was a good test for me to hone my skills in unwrapping and texture work.
The texture is 1024x1025. A step up from the 512x512 standard I had been working to.
This enabled me to improve the quality of the electronics panel on the front .

The fire extinguisher pushed me to the max of my skill (at the time).
Consisting of several shapes and needing to have an animated handle, it was a difficult challenge but a nice result for my portfolio.

After the fire extinguisher I decided that I needed to work on my ability to model awkward shapes. This sprinkler system proved a worthy challenge.
Through this object I learned how to use the symmetry modifier.
One of the main tools in my current arsenal.

I believe that at the point of its creation, this microwaves texture had been my finest work in photoshop.
Hindsight tells me that a normal map would have made it stand out more but I was not aware how to make those back then.
None the less this model helped me hone my UV-Unwrapping skills even further.

This security camera was the new pride of place piece for my portfolio.
It was the culmination of about 6-8 months of 3d modeling experience.
It was the discovery of Pro Boolean, grouping and smoothing groups (Not applied on the model but learned just after the project was finished.

As a comparison, here is a side by side shot of the 2 security cameras I had made within 6 months of each other.
This, to me, is the culmination of my portfolio work at the time.
The new camera replacing the old as the focal point of my skill and passion.

At this point in my career I had moved on from the work with my friends and had turned my focus to filling out my portfolio for my college application.
I started a new project to show off my skills in the best light.
